Funny about the Dean's Watch, I was given a copy for Christmas and had finished it by the end of Boxing Day! I will have to find another for the challenge.DeliveringGracehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08320150355352857841noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1272887249587912361.post-84593174060568092172016-01-01T02:51:12.713+00:002016-01-01T02:51:12.713+00:00Maybe you could read Watershed Down anyway? And I highly recommend The Dean's Watch by Goudge--my favorite of hers so far.Sherryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04664642293286996220noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1272887249587912361.post-19816041989100785272015-12-19T22:43:57.468+00:002015-12-19T22:43:57.468+00:00Thanks Carol. His sister's, O Douglas, books are very different but gentle interwar romances in the middle/upper classes set in the Scottish borders. A fascinating commentary on a world that has disappeared.DeliveringGracehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08320150355352857841noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1272887249587912361.post-23679635517000854812015-12-19T22:41:19.784+00:002015-12-19T22:41:19.784+00:00Karen, you are absolutely right, Watership Down is...Karen, you are absolutely right, Watership Down is too new. I hadn't even thought to check that one although I did check the Solzhenitsyn as some of his other books are post 1966. I will look out for something else-maybe one of Anthony Trollope's with a place name in the title.DeliveringGracehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08320150355352857841noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1272887249587912361.post-89142031246832565512015-12-19T13:59:24.766+00:002015-12-19T13:59:24.766+00:00Great list! I don't consider Watership Down as a children's book, but I'm not sure if it was published early enough to qualify -- remember, 1966 is the cutoff date so I'd check on that. And Wives & Daughters is just wonderful! Thanks for signing up for the challenge!Karen K.https://www.blogger.com/profile/13483190930383406559noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1272887249587912361.post-60746134927553371722015-12-19T01:13:06.700+00:002015-12-19T01:13:06.700+00:00Nice! It also has allusions to Pilgrim's Progress which I loved. 'House for Mr Biswas' sounds interesting. I'm not 100% on the choices I have for this category so will look into that one. Look forward to reading your thoughts on these books. Have a wonderful Christmas!Carolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06820925595506920754noreply@blogger.com
