From memory, they were great for learning individual letters but didn't seem to help us much with blending which was where the difficulties started. I've heard great things about the McGuffey readers. Great that we can set the pace according to the child's needs.DeliveringGracehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08320150355352857841noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1272887249587912361.post-78198156209425051602015-04-14T23:29:57.985+01:002015-04-14T23:29:57.985+01:00Sorry to hear about your reading journey. Pardon the pun, but truly, our eyes were open up to a whole new world. It is my belief, all children should have access to a full, in-depth examination, so that eye tracking issues can be caught. Standard eye exams do not catch these issues. I'm afraid, no scheme will have the desired success, if there are tracking issues. We learned a great deal through this journey.Carolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09846064432868323226noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1272887249587912361.post-7676278089983913702015-04-10T23:44:22.134+01:002015-04-10T23:44:22.134+01:00We don't have any special reading needs, as fa...We don't have any special reading needs, as far as I know, except reluctance...it's possible one of our kids would have got labelled with something if they were at school I suspect, they all seem to be relatively "late" readers. We use Alphablocks DVDs and then McGuffey primers and readers at our own pace. There are spelling lists with each lesson, we pick and choose from them, and practice imprinting (look at the word, then cover it up and see if you can remember how it's spelled). http://www.bethbaker.co.uk/mcguffey-primers-no-school-like-the-old-school/Beth Bakerhttp://www.bethbaker.co.uknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1272887249587912361.post-9576333160852802152015-04-10T20:29:51.477+01:002015-04-10T20:29:51.477+01:00Thank you. One concept at the time, divide your lessons as you like, go back over things if needed. It seems to work effortlessly.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
