Last night, at our church Bible study, we sang this hymn by Horatius Bonar who was a nineteenth century Scottish minister and hymn writer. The last two verses of this hymn really struck me.
We change and our feelings alter but the Lord never changes. His promises are secure.
This reminds me of the verse
I hear the words of love.
I gaze upon the blood,
I see the mighty sacrifice,
And I have peace with God.
'Tis everlasting peace!
Sure as Jehovah'sname,
And stable as His steadfast throne,
For evermore the same.
The clouds may go and come,
And storms may sweep my sky-
This blood-sealed friendship changes not:
The Cross is ever nigh.
My love is oft-times low,
My joy still ebbs and flows;
But peace with Him remains the same-
No change Jehovah knows.
I change, He changes not,
The Christ can never die;
His love, not mine, the resting place,
His trust, not mine, the tie.
We change and our feelings alter but the Lord never changes. His promises are secure.
This reminds me of the verse
For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
But the word of the Lord endureth for ever.
1 Peter 1 v24-25
