April Inspiration

Happy April! We saw our first lambs of the year today.

The Way things work by David Macauley is a book which we enjoy. I was delighted to find that a home educator has divided it up by weeks and provided a list of activities along with kit needed to turn this into a year's physics course aimed at children around 11-13.

Wierd Unsocialized Homeschoolers has produced a most useful checklist of 13 hands-on activites to enhance any study. Something to pull out on those occasions when ideas fail.

Poetry teatime has been a great success here. This week, the Brave Writer team launched a new website which is dedicated to poetry teas. This includes a free quick start guide.

The Yale Center for Dyslexia and Creativity has a post about How Parents can build a word-rich Life for Dyslexics but the ideas and principles apply to all children.

I have a weakness for book lists but Se7en's Great Big list of the 100 Best Non-Fiction books for Kids was super especially as it starts with one of our favourite non-fiction books.

Happy reading!

  1. Thank you so much for sharing all these links, Sarah. My dad gave us The Way Things Work (I think I may have had a copy as a child!), and Se7en's book list is of course, also hard for me to ignore! Have a blessed April :-)
