Changes

Things rarely stay static and we have a few changes all coming together.

Elder Daughter is about to disappear on a year abroad. We've been living in a roller coaster of visa issues but these seem to have been resolved. The children would love to visit her at some point. I'm not making promises but have looked on TripAdvisor.

This week, Middle Son had his IGCSE results. We are thankful that he has done very well and has a place at his first choice of sixth form. It is going to seem strange having one fewer child at home, in the day. The last couple of days have included multiple forms and shopping for kit. I think that he is now ready which is just as well as he starts next week.

We care for an older relative and have hit a phase when the amount of help that we need to give seems to have increased exponentially. The last few weeks have included a plethora of different personnel either visiting or on the phone, along with new equipment arriving. I'm glad that this has happened in the summer holiday when there is a bit more time. I've been working on trying to stream line our home education and to make sure that the children have things that they can carry on doing if there are interruptions. As far as possible, I try to arrange visits, phone calls and arranging space for new equipment away from the hours when I am actively teaching but inevitably, this isn't always possible.

If you have time, please pray for us in these changes and that I will have wisdom in prioritising time.

    1. Yes, it is an amazing opportunity. Trying to pare possessions for a year down to just over 20kg is interesting!

  2. Which part of abroad? And yes, will be praying for the caring situation - you are doing the right thing, and really showing love and compassion, but that does not mean it can be easy at all to watch the decline (and also the exhaustion and at times frustration it must bring)

    1. Russia so very exciting but not on the doorstep. Yes, it isn't easy to watch decline. Strange as the children get more independent to watch someone go the other way and to take over tasks that we are relinquishing to the children.

  3. Very exciting indeed for your older daughter, and yet change in our families come with a great mix of emotions. May you be blessed for the care you're taking of the children's grandmother, and given strength for the journey ahead x

    1. Thank you, Anne. Yes, even very positive change can leave us with mixed feelings. It is a comfort to know that the Lord is with us wherever we go.

  6. Congratulations to your son for great exam results! Sarah, you must be so proud. Did he take them all at the same time? Can I ask how many he took? We are currently in discussions about how many my older ones will need to take.
I will be praying for your home situation, and for God to pour down grace on you all during these times of caring for your loved one. What a wonderful ministry. xx

    1. Thank you, Claire.
Yes, my son took all his exams together. He is young in the school year. He looked up the research about taking exams early and decided that he would take them all at the usual time. I certainly think that this made sense for English although I wonder whether he could have taken maths earlier. Taking seven in one go did cause a fair amount of disruption for the younger children. We had poetry tea in a cafe, several extra nature walks and time playing in parks but it was a challenge.
He took seven subjects. I do think the number is difficult. He attended one sixth form open day (state grammar) which required a minimum of eight. Most schools required five but he needed seven for the school he is now attending. I think it all depends on what your children want to do.
      Thank you for your prayers.
